Need a Guest Lecturer for your class or program?

If you鈥檙e a 橙子影院 faculty, staff member, or student leader, 顿辞苍鈥檛 Cancel That Class is a service provided to you by the departments within Student Success and Counseling Services. 聽

If you need to be out of town or an unexpected situation demands your attention, let us know, and one of our professional or paraprofessional staff members will come into your class on the day of your absence and provide an hour-long, educational workshop to your students. Maybe you are a student leader interested in providing a workshop to your club or residential community. 聽These workshops cover a variety of topics and are a great way for students to learn about important resources available to them at Campbell.

Here鈥檚 how it works:

  1. Browse the selection of workshops below and note the workshop you desire from the descriptions provided.
  2. We require a minimum of 2-weeks advance notice; same-day requests may not be fulfilled.
  3. If you would like any of our staff members to be a guest lecturer or to tailor their presentation to your specific class or event, please contact us at least three weeks in advance.
  4. All workshops are approximately one hour in length.
  5. When a presenter comes into your class, they will provide you with:
    • List of students in attendance
    • A post workshop survey of the students assessing the effectiveness of the workshop.
  6. All topics will be facilitated by a trained presenter who may be either an undergraduate peer educator, graduate professional or full-time professional staff member.

Workshops Offered

  • Dream Big, Set Goals, Take Action: Goal setting is a crucial part of achieving incredible results. This presentation will help students learn how effective goal setting will allow them to visualize their goal in their mind as well as the required steps to making that happen. It will also help them understand what personal qualities they need to develop in order to achieve their goals.
  • Time Management for the Busy College Student: This presentation will provide students with the strategies necessary to create a productive schedule that decreases stress and promotes effective learning habits and completion of tasks. Students will learn how to prioritize tasks, while finding time to include the activities they enjoy.
  • Let鈥檚 Take Notes: The main goal of taking notes is to encourage active learning and to prepare study materials for exams. This workshop helps the students learn more about their strengths in note taking as well as the areas they need to improve. It also provides them with some note taking strategies and gives them the opportunity to decide which method works best for them.
  • Resume/Cover Letter Writing: This presentation provides guidance on how to create a powerful targeted resume/cover letter and utilize keywords effectively to enhance your job search. This workshop can be tailored to your students majors and intended industries if requested. This workshop is intended for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
  • Adulting 101: Attend graduate school or go into the workforce? This presentation focuses on assisting students with deciding the right path after college. This workshop is intended for juniors and seniors.
  • Webutation: A student鈥檚 online reputation is an important piece to consider when it comes to applying for jobs and continuing education. This presentation shares tips on how to improve one鈥檚 webutation by cleaning up their social media and creating a LinkedIn profile. This workshop is intended for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
  • 30 Second Elevator Speech: This presentation shares with students how to articulate themselves simply and professionally in under a minute to share their story with future employers. We tap into their creative side by having them create a personal brochure to highlight their strengths, identify skills needed, and much more. This workshop is intended for all students.
  • Test anxiety isn鈥檛 a disorder:聽It鈥檚 a common experience which unfortunately can cause a test grade not to accurately reflect what the student has learned. In this session, students will learn about the biological processes behind anxiety and why they can cause problems during a test. They will also learn strategies to help manage test anxiety and about resources for further support.
  • Memory: We all wish we were better at remembering things, especially when it comes to our exams. This workshop will introduce students to the brain, what you can do to make sure its functioning optimally, and different ways to think about information that will help you remember it long-term.
  • How of Happiness: When you ask people what they want out of life, most tell you that they want to be happy. This workshop explores the concept of happiness and dives into the 12 actionable steps you can take to feel better.
  • Professional School is Hard: We try to teach students some best practices during our first-year seminar course. Inevitably, not all of those good habits are retained throughout their college years. This workshop is particularly helpful for students in first year professional courses that might need a refresher on how to get the most out of each day.
  • Engaging Your Strengths: Today we live in a deficit-based society that is encouraging us to fix our weaknesses. This workshop asks students to think about their strengths, what they already do well, and how they can leverage those strengths in other areas of their life that allows them to get more done in less time.
  • Lack of Focus:聽 Students stressed out by their rigorous course loads?聽 De-Stress for Success offers strategies to cope and thrive!聽聽
  • Relationships 101: Are your relationships negatively impacting your academic performance?聽 Unhealthy relationships, whether romantic, platonic or familial, can all interfere with various aspects of college.聽 Learn how to recognize the problem and what you can do about it in Healthy Relationships 101.
  • Why so Frustrated?:聽 Learn practical strategies to cope with frustration more effectively.
  • Too Stressed to Learn:聽 Mindfulness is trending in school systems and work settings across the country.聽 Learn why these strategies are making the cover of Time and how you too can benefit from this practice!
  • Putting off Procrastination: Did you know we all have a procrastination style?聽 Learn what your individual procrastination style is, how it benefits you, how it impedes you and how to break the cycle of procrastination.
  • The Positive College Experience: how to avoid the common academic pitfalls related to college student alcohol use.
